GOING BY FAITH
November 11, 2007

Dear CCAM Partners and Friends,

Now Buntheep is almost blind in her left eye too. Last Monday she performed so admirably at her piano lesson, even with sight in only one eye, but today she could not participate at all. Weeks ago, she had to drop out of all dance and drama classes, rehearsals, and performances that she loves so much. Now her understudy has taken her place. And now she can no longer read either. So we are taking turns reading the Bible to her and helping her review all of the many Bible verses she has already memorized. Now headaches are her constant companion and she vomits a lot more than before. She is becoming very weak and sleeps most of the time, so we have moved her to stay in our CCAM medical clinic, where it is quieter than in the dormitory. Whenever she is awake, her schoolmates and relatives come to visit.

Overall, Buntheep's countenance is amazingly peaceful and happy, as she keeps trusting the Lord with her situation. But sometimes, she also struggles with fears and needs our special encouragements and prayers. This is a very sudden and difficult life change for a 12-year-old girl to handle. Please pray that the Lord will give Buntheep deep spiritual wisdom and boldness beyond her years, and that she will continue to grow in faith and patience during this trial.

Following are the main hospital/physician options still being researched (none definite yet). Apparently the decision-making processes at the various institutions are still mired in bureaucracy and discussions about financial aid. However, since Buntheep already has a passport with a U.S. visa, and since we already have enough donations to purchase 2 airline tickets, we plan to go ahead by faith and bring Buntheep to the U.S. sometime this week. Our doctor warns that if we wait too long to make the journey, she may become too sick and have too much pressure build-up in her head to travel long distances by air.

We have just confirmed two available flight options (the only ones this week), both departing from Cambodia on November 13:

  • Phnom Penh--Seoul--Chicago on Korean Air
  • Phnom Penh--Taipei--Los Angeles on EVA Air

Please pray for God to give us wisdom about which one to choose. Hopefully, we will also know our final destination soon, so that we can also book the connecting flight, but if not, we will just take one step at a time, like Abraham did.

So here are the current destination options. What we need is a dynamic trio--physician, hospital, plus financial aid package QUICK!:

  • U.S.A.
    1. St. Jude's Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee?
    2. Wyler's Children's Hospital, Knoxville, Tennessee?
    3. St. Louis Children's Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri?
    4. Children's Medical Center, Dallas, Texas?
    5. Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?
    6. Baptist Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida?
    7. Denver, Colorado?
    8. Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois?
    9. City of Hope Hospital, Los Angeles, California?
    10. Valley Children's Hospital, Madera, California?
    11. Loma Linda University Hospital, Loma Linda, California?
    12. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?
    13. Birmingham, Alabama?
    14. Doernbecher, Portland, Oregon?
    15. Providence St. Vincent, Portland, Oregon?

Following are U.S. medical funding organizations still being researched (nothing definite yet):

  • Mending Kids International?

Please let us know if you have any medical or funding connections in these or other places. Also please let us know if you would be able to offer us food, lodging, and local transportation, should we come to your area.

Praise the Lord for His answers to our prayers so far! And please continue to pray that our Lord Jesus Christ will miraculously heal Buntheep according to His perfect will.

Many blessings,
Gioia and Noren
for Buntheep and the CCAM Family
