Dear CCAM Partners and Friends,
About this same time of year in 2007, 12-year-old Buntheep was diagnosed with a fast-growing brain tumor and was subsequently carried by the grace of God to Jacksonville, Florida, U.S.A., for 8 months of multiple surgeries, radiation treatments, and chemo (or more precisely bio) therapy. Since returning to Cambodia, most of her physical impairments, plus frequent medical emergencies, have been overcome one by one, also by the grace of God.
But for quite some time now, there haven't been any more medical emergencies to report about Buntheep's health! Her daily calcium supplements and injections of Calcitonin have continued uninterrupted, and will continue until April 2010, around Buntheep's 15th birthday.
At that time, there will be another follow-up MRI to check on the status of the tumor, which we hope will be gone! But medically speaking, even if it is "gone," there is no guarantee that the tumor could not grow back from stray cells. So please continue to pray for the completion of God's miraculous healing of Buntheep that we've been witnessing for the past two years.
And so, the 12-year-old is now going on 15! She is growing up and popping out of all the clothes she accumulated in America, so we've been shopping for some new ones in local markets. Buntheep is also experiencing the ups and downs of being a normal teenager. Please pray that she will navigate redemptively through this challenging season of her life.
And Buntheep continues to excel in whatever she does. Recently she and two other students have been receiving nurse's training from a volunteer nurse who comes to teach them once a week. This will prepare them to serve as medical assistants at CCAMS in the future.
Thank you for your prayers and for your encouraging emails from time to time.
Gratefully,
Gioia for Buntheep
