Dear CCAM Partners and Friends,

In 2010, Martin and Rebekah Neil of Voices from the Nations came to Cambodia to film and record a promotional CD-DVD album about CCAM called “Garlands for Ashes.” Since then, this album has been distributed by Martin and Rebekah as they travel around the world doing their ministry. Proceeds from this project have been designated to fund CCAM housing needs.

The CD features Khmer traditional music, plus CCAM original music, all performed by CCAM students and staff, along with guest artists. The DVD features scenes of Cambodia, interviews with CCAM teachers and students, a collection of CCAM dances, and individual demonstrations of the instruments in the Khmer orchestra.

Until now, the “Garlands for Ashes” album has only been available in hard copy. We are excited to announce that the music from the CD is now available for download online! CCAM receives the most benefit from purchases made through CD Baby, but the CD is also available on iTunes and Amazon. Each of these sites allows you to preview songs before purchasing and offers the option of downloading the whole CD or individual songs.

“The Dew of Life,” one of the many original songs created by Rin Yame during his ten years at CCAM, is featured on the CD. Now his song has become the accompaniment for an original allegorical dance drama, blending ballet with Khmer classical dance. Click here to view a video of the dance. The English translation of the song lyrics are posted under the video screen.

We encourage you to visit the online stores and write reviews about the music. Lots of positive reviews and comments will reflect in search engines, increasing the possibility of others running across the CD. Reviews can be submitted at the bottom of the page on CD Baby and Amazon, and in the “Ratings and Reviews” tab on iTunes.

On the other hand, if you prefer to order a hard copy of the entire CD/DVD album, which includes an explanatory booklet, it is available on Voices from the Nations website at a reduced price for a limited time.

In 2013, Martin and Rebekah returned to CCAM to record original music composed by CCAM creative partner David Bin for some new CCAM dances. Follow the link to enjoy the high fidelity recording of the music for “Proclamation Drum Dance” posted on their website. Although created in Khmer traditional style, this piece is nevertheless unique, since it is played by an all drum orchestra that accompanies a solo male singer, David Bin himself! Click here to view a video performance of the drummers dancing to their own music. The English translation of the song lyrics are posted under the video screen.
